If you are having a hospital birth, we will give you the DOT guidelines for safe transport of the placenta from the hospital to your home.
Keep the placenta refrigerated and covered.
If the hospital has frozen the placenta, keep it frozen until we have your initial service time scheduled. A frozen placenta will take at least 24 hours to thaw in the fridge, so our services usually begin the day after you get home from the hospital.
We prefer that you reserve our services before you deliver, by about the 36th week gestation. We can accommodate last-minute births, but it's best for everyone if you have all the information you need before you deliver. Then you just need to text us with your good news about the birth, and we set a time to get to you!
We have a great team of ladies, so we can generally get to you within 24 hours. But we do allow up to 72 hours after the birth, as there is some flexibility from birth to the time we begin.
If you've had a hospital birth and the placenta is frozen, then we will schedule your first session within 72 hours of the time you notify us (again, usually within 24, but up to 72 hours)
This is a pretty major concern for some of our clients, and even the ones who were most afraid of the smell admitted that it was not what they expected. It smells like anything else you'd be cooking in the kitchen. And hilariously, there have been a few times where friends of the family have stopped by while we're working in the kitchen and wander in to ask what we're cooking "because it smells delicious"!
The number of capsules depends on the size of the placenta. Placentas tend to be proportional to the baby's size, so bigger babies tend to have bigger placentas, and therefore, more capsules.
However, a typical placenta will yield anywhere from 86 - 200+ capsules. I have never had a client NOT have enough capsules for her immediate postpartum recovery, which is daily use for 2-3 weeks postpartum.
Yes. There is just an extra disinfection processed involved, but it is totally safe.
